Seeing beyond the obvious
Sometimes what needs to be done is obvious, sometimes things are not so straight forward. There's a clear benefit in a strategic approach to even the most tactical of actions. With a background in media, community engagement, and product management, you'll often see me take time to respond to a need in a measured way. My background in B2B has trained me to understand the customer/user/audience as a partner. I'll tend to do more with less.
I'm not a high volume, pump it out over social media and see what sticks kind of operator. I'm a big believer that what you say, or even more important when you say it, is more important than how often.
That's not always the case of course. I remember launching US-based companies into the Australian market. Back in the day when we printed press releases, folded them, and sent them in the post. Opportunities to make an impact were few and far between in those days, but to get attention for a new player I may have been guilty of flooding the editors with announcements until they begged me to stop.

Telling stories to people who matter is only part of the story. Today's communication strategies are two-way allowing direct feedback loops that were once only possible via the sales, or service and support functions in an enterprise. Today, if you're not listening at least as much as you're are telling, then you are missing an opportunity to understand and respond to the stakeholders who matter.

Even though I am not technically trained, I am equally comfortable explaining the non-technical to engineers and developers as I am explaining the high-tech to the non-technical colleagues, customers, or government bureaucrats.
Strong interpersonal and communications skills serve me well in stakeholder engagement, policy, and inter-governmental liaison for the Asia Pacific region and globally.
In the workplace, colleagues seek my guidance as a mentor, strategic thinker, and motivator. Now, with nearly three years of Product Management experience, I'm looking for opportunities that bring these things together and allow me to engage across diverse audiences.
This site began as a defensive registration, then became a travel blog, because I couldn't have a running commentary on my work for obvious reasons. Then it became an abandoned travel blog and remained static for six years. Now it is likely to start looking like a resume, but the goal is to make it more than that.
