I’m an Australian communicator, product manager, and engagement specialist with extensive experience in technology and the Internet.

Starting in the media as a freelance journalist in the early days of the commercial Internet have allowed me to ‘grow up’ with the network. Through the 1990’s I worked both sides of the press vs PR divide exposing me to plenty of technology and providing the privilege of plenty of clients and interview subjects on hand to explain the basics of technologies that make up the technology ecosystem as we know it today.

It offered me the opportunity to get a few firsts under my belt: “First specialist networking journalist” in one. First Editor of an technology news website” is another. I’m enormously proud of this period of my life, despite it being ultimately sabotaged by the dotcom busts while I was working in Singapore as the Publisher for a regional technology monthly.

Through most of this time, the focus was the business side of the technology, what were the vendors, solution providers. This carried through to my work with the Regional Internet Registry, APNIC. This organization not only manages the IP address range for the Asia Pacific, but it also represents the interests of the Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and telco’s in the region.

The Asia Pacific is home to half the world’s population, but it’s Internet connectivity was still quite immature when I started working with them back in 2008. Today, the operators in the Asia Pacific take their rightful place on the Internet, running networks as sophisticated as any in the western hemisphere. The small contribution I’ve been able to make supporting the people who build these networks has provided a great deal of professional satisfaction.

I recently decided to embark on what is likely to be my third and last career.
